After seeing Mt. Rushmore, we traveled into the boondocks of the South Dakota/Wyoming border to the sight of Devil's tower, a huge conical shaped rock protruding out of the landscape. Malia must have filled her quota of seeing huge pieces of rock and opted to stay in the car. Upon entering the park, however, we encountered something that piqued even her fancy. On both sides of the car were huge fields covered with prairie dog colonies. I had to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting on as it scurried across the road ("why did the prairie dog cross the road.....nah!)
Anyway, we sat in our car for several minutes enjoying the antics of the plethora of prairie dogs just out our car windows before driving on.

Everyone except Malia at the foot of Devil's tower. You need a special "I-would-like-to-die" permit to cross the boulder field and scale the side of Devil's tower.

A big, chubby prairie dog that couldn't care less that five cars were less
than four feet away from him.

Constant good photography and story telling. This place reminds us of "Close Encounters of a Third Kind"
